How to purchase Tokyo 2020 tickets

As tickets will be in such high demand, you should take the chance to buy tickets as soon as you have the chance. Here is a guide on how to buy Tokyo 2020 tickets once they become available.

Session, type of ticket, and number of tickets

When you buy tickets you’ll need to select the sport, event, and session you want to buy ticket/s for. The time and the number of contests in each session vary and a limited amount of tickets are sold per session.

You also need to choose how many tickets you want to buy though there is a maximum number which depends on the category of the event. The maximum number of tickets you can buy will vary between 2 and 8 depending on how many tickets are available and how sought after they are.

Tokyo 2020 ID Registration

You’ll need to register for a Tokyo 2020 ID registration which is needed to apply for tickets. To get your unique ID number you’ll need to provide:

  • Your address
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Telephone number

You’ll also need to choose a password.

Application payment details

You need to agree to the terms and conditions before paying for your Tokyo 2020 tickets. All applicants are strongly advised to read the terms and conditions to ensure they don’t break any of the terms and invalidate their tickets. Applicants then need to make a full payment for all the tickets as partial payments are not accepted.

Tickets rules

You must use official channels to buy Tokyo 2020 tickets. Tickets bought through unofficial resellers could be invalid or counterfeit. Even if they are genuine they could be denied when you try to enter the venue.

Also be aware that you can’t obtain multiple IDs and buy more tickets than you’re allowed. If you’re discovered using multiple IDs to buy tickets, you’re tickets could be invalidated.

Prices

Ticket prices will start at 12,000 yen  for adults but much cheaper ticket will be available for children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Ticket prices will go up in relation to the popularity of the event.

The most expensive tickets will be 300,000 yen for the opening and closing ceremonies. The cheapest childrens’ tickets will cost 2,020 yen.

Ticket resellers for overseas residents

If you’re an overseas resident you can buy tickets from your country’s designated Authorised Ticket Resellers (ATRs) or Sub-Distributors appointed by your National Olympic Committee.  You can find a full list of official resellers from your Olympic Committee’s website.

Ticket sales may start on different dates in different countries and the prices may also vary. If you can’t find a list of ATRs in your country it may be because the information is not available yet.
