The National JR Group regulations are very strict when it comes to authenticity of paperwork. This is why it is obligatory to have the original JR Pass Exchange Order and your passport (stamped with a Temporary visitor stamp).

The JR voucher and your passport are the 2 physical documents that are required by the JR staff. No scanned, photocopied, photographed or email substitutes of the original documents will be accepted.
