Hikari and Kodama services are covered by the JR Pass.<\/p>\n<p>The available train services between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto Station by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/tokaido-shinkansen-jr-pass\">Tokaido Shinkansen<\/a> are <strong>Nozomi, Hikari <\/strong>and <strong>Kodama<\/strong>. JR Pass holders can ride on a Nozomi train if they pay a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/nozomi-shinkansen\">supplemental fee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Without a JR Pass, a one-way adult non-reserved ticket costs <strong>1,450 yen<\/strong>. The Special Rapid is the fastest and most convenient service in this line since it only stops at Osaka, Shin-Osaka, Takatsuki and Kyoto.<\/p>\n<p>The Special Rapid trains\u00a0run between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/osaka-station-city\">Osaka Station<\/a> and Kyoto Station and they take <strong>arround 29 minutes.<\/strong> Check the departure board for the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Though they are slower than the bullet trains, it\u2019s the quickest way if you\u2019re close to Osaka Station. The journey is covered by a JR Pass, or adult tickets are <strong>580 yen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As well as Special Rapid trains, you can take the <strong>Limited Express Thunderbird<\/strong>, fully covered by your JR Pass. All Thunderbird seats are reserved, so reserve a seat before boarding.<\/p>\n<p>Without a JR Pass, the <strong>regular-season adult fare is 1,870 yen<\/strong>, with the price varying by travel date. The train stops at Shin-Osaka, and some services also stop at Takatsuki. Some services also stop at Takatsuki. The journey takes <strong>around 30 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Non-JR_train_lines_between_Osaka_and_Kyoto\">Non-JR train lines between Osaka and Kyoto<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Hankyu Railway is a private company which is not covered by the JR Pass. The Hankyu Kyoto line runs from <strong>Osaka-umeda Station to Kyoto-kawaramachi Station<\/strong>, with Limited Express services taking around 43 to 48 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Though it\u2019s not the quickest, an adult one-way fare is <strong>only 410 yen<\/strong>, so it\u2019s a good option if you haven\u2019t got a JR Pass. It also provides easy access to attractions in western Kyoto.<\/p>\n<p>A Limited Express train takes you on the Keihan main line from <strong>Yodoyabashi Station to Sanjo Station<\/strong> in arround 50 minutes and costs 490 yen. It\u2019s a handy option for sightseeing as it stops close to many of Kyoto\u2019s most iconic sights. It\u2019s run by a private company not covered by the JR Pass.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Osaka_to_Kyoto_by_bus\">Osaka to Kyoto by bus<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Alternatively, there are <strong>limited direct bus services<\/strong> from Osaka to Kyoto.
