It was a triumph and other theme parks followed suit. Now Halloween is <strong>one of the biggest events on the calendar,<\/strong> held, of course, October 31.<\/p>\n<p>However, Halloween in Japan isn\u2019t just an imitation of the American version. First of all, <strong>there\u2019s no \u2018trick or treating\u2019<\/strong>. Secondly, as it\u2019s a new phenomenon, people don\u2019t care about most of the Halloween traditions which are important elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Instead,<strong> people focus their creative energy on their Halloween costumes<\/strong>. They take place throughout Japan in popular spots such as <strong>squares and parks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a huge annual Halloween parade at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/roppongi-travel-guide\"><strong>Roppongi Hills <\/strong><\/a>which always turns into a huge street party. Another one of the best parties is in <strong>Shibuya<\/strong> (Tokyo) where the <strong>Scramble Crossing<\/strong> and <strong>Center Gai<\/strong> are closed off from traffic and the partying goes on until the early hours!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Street parties <\/strong>are a great way of seeing a wide variety of costumes and having fun at <strong>Halloween on a budget<\/strong>. They are free and you can bring your own drinks. The only money you need to spend is on <strong>your costume<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Halloween_treats\">Halloween treats<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Though people don\u2019t \u2018trick or treat\u2019 you can still find plenty of<strong> sweet things <\/strong>to eat at Halloween. Here are some of the biggest amusement parks which run annual Halloween events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/tokyo-disneyland\"><strong>Tokyo Disneyland<\/strong><\/a>: The park\u2019s many characters turn into ghosts which haunt the park in the evening.
