It was the <strong>first fully remodeled bullet train in 13 years<\/strong>, boasting cutting-edge new features which reduce air resistance and noise in comparison to current models.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/shinkansen-train-types#N700_N700A_series\">N700A<\/a> was launched in 2013, and with the \u2018A\u2019 suffix standing stands for \u2018Advanced\u2019. The current space has been expanded by 15%<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The company believes the <strong>lithium-ion battery self-propulsion system<\/strong> will be extremely useful during power outages or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/earthquakes-in-japan\"><strong>earthquakes<\/strong><\/a>. Trains that otherwise might be left stranded in bridges or tunnels will be able to operate catenary-free at low speed to the nearest station. The last two are currently included with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/the-japan-rail-pass\">JR Pass<\/a>\u00a0(you can also pay a supplement to ride the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/nozomi-shinkansen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nozomi<\/a> with your pass).<\/p>\n<p>The N700S is expected to gradually replace N700 series sets on these lines, as reflected in an expanded N700S <a href=\"https:\/\/railway.jr-central.co.jp\/pwd\/_pdf\/N700S.pdf\">timetable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The N700 series\u2019 previous maximum speed was 332km\/h, reached in 2009 between Maibara and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/destinations\/kyoto\">Kyoto<\/a> during high-speed trials. Keep in mind that reservations must be made in advance for oversized luggage storage space<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other technological improvements include the utilization of a new type of active suspension will <strong>make journeys feel smoother<\/strong>. There are also be refinements to the ATC (Automatic Train Control) and the braking systems to allow for shorter braking distances in the event of emergencies. The traction system also uses silicon carbide components resulting in 7% less power usage than its \u2018Advanced\u2019 predecessor.<\/p>\n<p>Plans in the pipeline include the upgrade of first-class cars to offer fewer, more spacious seats, each rotatable with a high backrest, lockable door, and extra legroom.
