Depending on the date of the journey, and whether it\u2019s peak, regular or off-season, the seat reservation fee is either \u00a5<strong>330, \u00a5530, \u00a5730 or \u00a5930<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a supplement applies to people <strong>riding in green cars<\/strong> (equivalent to first class). This increases with the distance traveled, too.<\/p>\n<p>Some trains, such as <strong>Nozomi and Mizuho services<\/strong>, have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/faq\/nozomi-mizuho-shinkansen\">additional supplemental fee<\/a>. This is not covered by the JR Pass, so you need to purchase a complementary ticket to ride these trains. Green car fees are still charged at full price.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Young children (1 to 5 years old) <\/strong>&#8211; <strong>Up to 2 young children<\/strong> can travel for free when accompanied by an adult. Additional children, or young children that occupy a reserved seat, are charged the regular child\u2019s price (50% of full fare).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infant (less than one year old) <\/strong>&#8211; Up to 2 infants can <strong>travel for free<\/strong>. The regular child fare (50% of full fare) applies if the child occupies a reserved seat, green car seat, or bed. In parties with more than 2 infants, only 2 may ride for free; tickets must be purchased for all additional children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span id=\"How_and_where_to_buy_Shinkansen_tickets\">How and where to buy Shinkansen tickets<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can buy regular Shinkansen tickets<strong> from ticket counters or ticket machines.<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Sanyo, Tokaido and Kyushu shinkansen tickets,<strong> you can buy online <\/strong>through the official website<strong>, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smart-ex.jp\/en\/lp\/app\/\"><strong>SmartEx<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For <strong>JR East tickets<\/strong>, you can also use their online platform, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eki-net.com\/es\/jreast-train-reservation\/Top\/Index\">Ekinet<\/a>. The machines are very useful if you\u2019re familiar with them, but they can be confusing. Not all machines are the same, as some only offer Shinkansen tickets, others only offer seat reservations, and some do not accept foreign credit cards.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"How_to_use_Shinkansen_tickets\">How to use Shinkansen tickets<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are special <strong>Shinkansen gates<\/strong> at train stations for the bullet trains.
