The first-class-only train service running to the spa resorts of the Izu peninsula is to feature brand new super luxury cars and a livery redesign.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The new blue paint job has been primarily chosen to signify the <strong>blue ocean and sky of the Izu Peninsula and Shizuoka Prefecture<\/strong> where the train travels to. However, it is also partly inspired by the French word for Sapphire which the service was named after.<\/p>\n<div id=\"toc_container\" class=\"toc_white no_bullets\"><p class=\"toc_title\">Table of Contents<\/p><ul class=\"toc_list\"><li><a href=\"#Whats_on_board_the_Luxury_Saphir_Odoriko_Express\"><span class=\"toc_number toc_depth_1\">1<\/span> What\u2019s on board the Luxury Saphir Odoriko Express?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Route_and_schedule\"><span class=\"toc_number toc_depth_1\">2<\/span> Route and schedule<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#How_frequently_the_trains_run\"><span class=\"toc_number toc_depth_1\">3<\/span> How frequently the trains run?<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n<h2><span id=\"Whats_on_board_the_Luxury_Saphir_Odoriko_Express\">What\u2019s on board the Luxury Saphir Odoriko Express?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The new Odoriko service will run as an eight-car train that can carry 164 passengers. The configuration has been specially designed to focus on a <strong>super luxury experience<\/strong> and enhancing the comfort of passengers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hYrTwWbezpU\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The first carriage is a <strong>Premium Green Car<\/strong> of just 20 seats, whilst the 2nd and 3rd consist of <strong>private cabins for 4-6 people<\/strong>. There is a cafeteria car in the 4th serving noodles cooked to customer order and the final 4 cars feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/green-pass\">conventional Green Car seating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Route_and_schedule\">Route and schedule<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The Saphir Odoriko express trains will run between Tokyo (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/tokyo-train-station\">Tokyo station<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/shinjuku-station\">Shinjuku station<\/a>) to its final destination in Izukyu Shimoda in Shizuoka<\/strong>. As a result of their replacement, the 251 series Odoriko trains are to be withdrawn from service and scrapped.<\/p>\n<p>The new E261 Odoriko trains unfortunately <strong>will not be covered by the regular JR Pass, which does not include Green Car train travel, you will need a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/green-pass\">Green Pass<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to experience the first carriage Premium Green Car, you will need to pay the full fare (\u00a511,430).
