Next year, with the Opening Ceremony on July 24, it will become the first Asian city to have held the<strong> biggest sporting competition <\/strong>on the planet twice.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the<strong> iconic 1964 stadiums <\/strong>will be reopened for the<strong> 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games<\/strong> and there will also be new, state-of-the-art venues which will have been purpose built.<\/p>\n<p>At each Olympics, there are always a couple of <strong>new sports to feature<\/strong>. For the first time, climbing, karate, skateboarding, and surfing will be contested. The Tokyo Bay Zone will represent the future, standing as a model for cutting-edge, <strong>urban development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Heritage Zone<\/strong> will be located in the central business area of Tokyo, northwest of the Olympic Village. It will include<strong> 7 venues<\/strong>, most of which were also used in the \u201864 games.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest area, the Tokyo Bay Zone, will be <strong>southeast of the Olympic Village<\/strong> and will contain <strong>13 venues<\/strong>. The majority will be in the Ariake District though some will be in Odaiba and the surrounding artificial islands. They will hold 339 events in 33 different sports, covering 50 disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrailpass.com\/blog\/tokyo-olympic-stadium\"><strong>New National Stadium<\/strong><\/a>, also known as Olympic Stadium, will serve as the main venue of the Olympics and Paralympics. The Stadium was used in the 1964 Olympics and is being rebuilt in the same spot in the <strong>Heritage Zone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It will hold<strong> 68,000 seats<\/strong> but the capacity could be increased to 80,000 for the soccer matches.
